The Secret In The Wings
Mary Zimmerman's play The Secret In The Wings is a series of lesser known fairy tales that are told through the lens of a young child's imagination. Cornish College of the Arts' production did not stray far from Zimmerman's original intentions, but worked hard to tell each story from the point of a view of a young child by transforming every day objects that one would find in a basement into magical items.
The sound design for this production was influenced by music box versions of nursery rhymes and classical music that one would typically find on a cd for small children. Each fairy tale in the play was assigned a specific theme song to help create the world around that specific story. On the other hand, the sound effects for the show worked to transform the basement objects by turning them into something they were not - such as a freezer into a guillotine.
