Kill Shakespeare
Kill Shakespeare is a play based on the comic book series of the same name by Anthony del Col and Conor McCreery. In this play, Shakespeare's greatest heroes and villains are pitted against each other to either kill - or save the great William Shakespeare. For Corynn Carignan and Amber Granger's Senior Project at Cornish College of the Arts, this production was done in the form of a staged reading and featured art panels by Andy Belanger from the comics.
To embrace the staged reading format and bring a comic book to life, the sound design for this production was primarily Foley based. The Foley Artist was placed upstage of the voice actors and used a variety of found objects and sound props to create the atmospheric sounds of the play as they occurred. As for music, this was implemented into the show in two different ways - both live and digitally. For the live music one of the actors would play their baritone ukulele to create a Renaissance-like feeling that one would typically expect from a Shakespeare play. The digital music was played back in QLab and was created using experimental synthesizers in Logic Pro X. The experimental synthesizers were used to create musical wind sounds that carried the dark, eerie scenes in the play.
